Cuba in 15 days

If you are planning to go to Cuba, I recommend you to spend there at least 15 days so you have enough time to travel along the island and discover the cuban essence. Someone said photos?

1. Habana

We arrived on the 7th in the afternoon, so this day we just went to the room, we bought something for dinner and we went to sleep. After 9h of flight we were death. We spent in Havana two full days.

Day 1. Habana Vieja

After buying a Etecsa card, we hired a horse carriage to see the whole Habana Vieja. It cost us 16 CUC/person and we spent like 3h with the driver.

We started in Plaza de Armas and I don't remember the exactly journy but we saw el Malecón, el Castillo de los Tres reyes,  el Capitolio, el Hotel Sevilla, la Plaza de las Catedrales (you must cover your legs if you go in the church), la Plaza Vieja, Museo de la Revolución, Taxis park, la Bodeguita del Medio and Almacenes San José.

We stopped once to drink a mojito and listen nice live music and a second one for eating. We were also stopping every time we wanted a photo or to enter in the places.

After lunch we took a boat and we crossed to Casablanca. In this part we saw el Cristo de la Habana and la Cabaña de Che Guevara. When we come back again to Habana Vieja we were just walking around and visiting the places we couldn't stop too long during the morning tour.

Day 2. Habana Centro and Vedado

We bough tickets to go by bus the next day to Pinar del Rey and tobaccos in a house (we don't know if they were real) and we start to do tourism.

We went to el Vedado first. It's were most part of the new hotels and business are. In there we visited el  Memorial José Martí, la Plaza de la Revolución and the buildings with Che Guevara and Camilo faces.

Back in Habana Centro, we were in el Malecón spending some time taking the sun and watching the sea and the big waves, and later we were to see el Callejón Hamel. El Callejón is like a tiny small town where the santeros spend the time dancing, creating music, painting... it's like a colourful new world inside Habana.

As we didn't rent a car we didn't see a few things in el Vedado because it were too far from us for going by walk )=

2-3. Pinar del Río and Cayo Jutías

Day 3. Pinar del Río

We arrived here with a coach, which cost us 14 CUC/person, and it took like 4h with a stop in a beautiful bar floating. We spent here another two days.

As soon as we get off the bus, lot of people was waiting for us offering houses to stay, and that's how we found our second house. We paid 15 CUC/person with breakfast 2 nights. As soon as we arrived we asked our host for a tour and there we went.

We hired a tour with horses to visit the tobacco fields and a factory. We ate there too, we made tobacco, we drank rum... it was f***** amazing. You can buy here tobacco and rum cheaper and 100% real.

At night we went out for dinner and we saw a few pubs and restaurants but we were so done, so after dinner we went to sleep. The village also is literally a big road with fields in one side and houses in the other.

Important! Remember the way back home, the number, the colour of the walls and the name of the owners. We were lost walking up and down until a neighbour recognised us.

Day 4. Cayo Jutías

Early in the morning we took a colectivo, which is a private taxi-bus, and we were to the beach! The colectivo was kind of a prison bus, extremely uncomfortable and it took around 2-2.5h. It cost 15 CUC/person.

We spent the whole day in the beach, drinking rum in coconuts, eating fresh fish and taking the sun. It was a beautiful white sand coast and almost zero people around us.

4. Cienfuegos

Day 5. Cienfuegos

After 5 hours and two different cars we arrived to Cienfuegos (35 CUC/person). Our previous host contacted us with our next home (10 CUC/person/night). We were kind of dying after the trip, so we just were out to see the town and believe me, I've never seen a sunset like that. While we were in the port two guys came to speak with us and was really interesting exchange ideas and covers about the life in Cuba.

It's a small town but the buildings are from other world. They have a french past, so are really beautiful and the most important are in the same square.

Day 6. Bahía de las Cochinos

We phone the same driver who brought us to Cienfuegos to go to Bahía de los Cochinos. It cost us 17 CUC/person. It was really cool being in this historical place. We did snorkel to see the sunked ship of the war and we were swimming between small jellyfish (not funny, it was painful).  After that, we literally crossed the road and we swam in Cueva de los peces

Then car again and we went to a private beach, wich the entry with meal was 15 CUC/person. We spend here the rest of the day surrounded by tourists.

Back in Cienfuegos we were out for dinner and a few drinks on the streets.

5. Trinidad

Day 7. El Nicho and Trinidad

New driver, 15 CUC/person, to Trinidad. On our way we stopped in el Nicho, marvellous natural place with pools between the mountains. The entry was10 CUC/person and we could spend here 2h.

And then our destination for the following three days. We paid here for the room 20 CUC/person for 3 nights with breakfast.

Trinidad was our fav place. When we arrive they were celebrating the festivities of the village, so everybody was on the streets and every night was a show.

We decided to go out this night and we choose El Rincón de la Salsa. We met a lot of people, they taught us how to dance and we spend a funny night.

Day 8. Playa Ancón

2 CUC/person and we went to the beach. Was a relaxing day to deal with the hangover. It is a beautiful beach, white sand, clear and hot water and not too many people.

Back in Trinidad, we walk the streets to make time until the evening. And then again we spent the night out. This time we were to a disco in a cave! Entry 5 CUC/person, and there we met again our new friends so we spend the night together.

Day 9. Trinidad

We decided to do another tour with horses. We went to Topes de Collantes and there we swam and spend the day with horses and nature. The tour cost us 13 CUC/person with meal.

In the afternoon we do some shopping and finish to see the most important places in Trinidad, because sadly the next day we were leaving.

6-7. Santa Clara and Cayo Santa María

Day 10-13. Cayo Santa María

Northbound, the destination was Cayo Santa María. Los Cayos are like small island really beautiful and where the tourist go. We've booked an hotel all inclusive to rest and enjoy Cuba in a different way. After 10 days non stop we deserve it. We chose the Hotel Gran Memories Santa María.

30 CUC/person, 4h and one stop in Santa Clara.  Santa Clara is famous because is where el Mausoleo of Che Guevara is and where took place an important battle between the Revolución and the USA government. We visited the top sights and we continued our way.

Basically our days here were beach, drink, eat and sleep. It was January  so the hotel was kind of empty, which is good and we just enjoy ourselves. I have to say it was much funny and interesting sleep in houses and meet cubans than be in this hotel where the only you could do was relax.

Day 14-15. Habana Vieja

Our flight departured from Habana, so we finished our trip where it started. It took as 5h to go to Habana and we paid quite a lot, but was the only way we had to leave los Cayos.

When we arrive to the island our room was in Habana Centro but this time we were in Habana Vieja. Tbh, I prefer a hundred times more Habana Vieja than Habana Centro because one it's more tourist and the other one is more "familiar", so it's were most part of the people live.

Habana Vieja is so charm, full of live, colours and history. We went to the Museo de la Revolución and  we did a tattoo. The plan was go to the beach but it dawned raining.

We spend the two last days doing some shopping, visiting again our fav places and preparing ourselves to say goodbye to this lovely island.
